Laundry Room Remodel in Richmond, Virginia: From Cluttered Closets to Stunning Design

Every once in a while, we walk into a space and instantly know it deserves better. This laundry room remodel started as a mismatched combination of awkward closets and wasted square footage. There was a bifold-door closet crammed with a water heater, and nearby, a shallow 12-inch pantry that was supposed to serve the kitchen but was simply too far away to be practical. It was time for a full-on laundry room remodel.

Mapping the Laundry Room Remodel Layout

We stripped the space back and completely reworked how it functions, making for the perfect laundry room remodel. The former pantry closet became a purposeful mudroom zone, anchored by a custom 15-inch-deep French seat bench. Now, when you enter through the door on the right from the front porch, an informal entry reminiscent of a classic colonial home, you’re greeted with a built-in landing space that feels intentional and welcoming. The door on the left leads straight into the hallway connecting to the foyer and kitchen, making this room a true transition hub.

Coming in from the garage? This laundry room remodel delivers the ultimate drop zone. Groceries, backpacks, purses, and everyday essentials now have a designated landing space instead of piling up on the nearest counter.

The Niagara Blue Moment in This Laundry Room Remodel

We aimed for this laundry remodel to be vibrant and full of personality. We selected Signature Cabinetry in a stunning shade called Niagara, a rich blue that immediately energizes the room. The color story came straight from the gorgeous printed tile flooring sourced from Morris Tile.

  • The tile’s soft gray tones inspired our choice for the wall color, creating a cohesive backdrop that lets the cabinetry shine.
  • Warm, off-white laminate countertops offer incredible durability for daily chores while keeping the palette light and balanced.
  • We installed extensive upper and lower cabinetry to maximize storage capacity within the space.
  • Princess Leia, the family’s sweet dog, even has her own designated feeding spot tucked neatly against the cabinetry to keep her bowls out of the foot traffic.

Clever Solutions That Make This Laundry Room Remodel Work

This project is packed with thoughtful, real-life solutions. We relocated the water heater to the corner, concealing it behind beautifully integrated cabinetry. To ensure easy access, we designed a movable bank of drawers on casters. It can be rolled out for maintenance or shifted to create extra counter space when needed. When pushed back into place, it blends seamlessly into the cabinetry.

We also tackled the typical utility-room eyesores. The electrical panel is cleverly hidden behind a large framed piece of artwork, keeping the walls clean and polished without sacrificing access.

This laundry room remodel proves that hardworking spaces can be just as beautiful as they are practical. By rethinking the layout, layering in color, and maximizing storage at every turn, we transformed an awkward utility area into a bold, functional command center for daily life.
