A successful kitchen renovation doesn’t always require removing walls or expanding a footprint. In this project, we worked entirely within the existing layout, demonstrating how thoughtful design alone can completely transform a space. By replacing dated traditional elements with clean, modern lines, we created a striking kitchen remodel that blends contemporary aesthetics with highly personalized, accessibility-focused solutions.
Kitchen Remodel Solutions: Putting Everything Within Reach
A key priority in this kitchen remodel was tailoring the space to the homeowner’s specific needs. Standard cabinetry layouts often create unnecessary challenges, so we implemented custom solutions to ensure everything is easily within reach.
To eliminate the frustration of deep pantry storage, we designed a custom side-access pantry door, allowing effortless access to items stored at the back without the need for a step stool. The kitchen’s tall 9 to 9.5-foot ceilings also created unused vertical space, which we transformed into intentional storage for fine china and seasonal items, turning previously wasted space into a functional asset.
High-Gloss Finishes and Custom Cabinetry Design
For this design, we envisioned a bold, high-gloss modern design. While acrylic finishes are often used for this look, they can be prone to scratching. To achieve both beauty and durability, we partnered with cabinet manufacturer David Bradley to create a custom-painted finish with a vibrant, retro-inspired sheen. The result is a sleek, high-gloss surface that is both visually striking and highly resilient.
To balance the reflective cabinetry, we introduced rich, grounding materials throughout the room, including:
- Absolute Black Honed Granite: A matte, velvety countertop that adds depth and contrast to the glossy cabinetry.
- Metallic Glass Mosaic Backsplash: A black back-painted glass tile from Morris Tile with subtle metallic detailing that enhances light reflection.
- Blanco Silgranit Sink: A durable composite sink that reinforces the kitchen’s modern palette.
Upgrading Vinyl to Large-Format Tile: High-Impact Modern Details
To complete the project, we replaced outdated vinyl flooring with large-format tile featuring a natural stone appearance, reinforcing the modern aesthetic. Every detail was constructed for both form and function, including an integrated pull-out trash system discreetly positioned beside the sink.
The finished result is a highly functional, visually dramatic space that demonstrates how thoughtful home improvement can elevate everyday living while accommodating unique accessibility needs with precision and style.
